Other Happenings

We have been keeping busy. School carnivals, park days, working on the house, donut Saturdays, goofing off and whole lot of other things have kept us hoppin' the last few months. Looking forward to a more laid back summer!

Mothers Day 2013

I was lucky enough to get a special invitation to two mothers day teas! Evan and his class sand a song about moms and we had treat and received some great gifts. I love getting this stuff! It turns out I like cleaning and making dinner- glad someone thinks so. He also thinks I'm pretty and nice. I think the same about him. Kate's class sang three songs and she did such a good job! She isn't the singer Evan is and doesn't like to sing too much at home. She pulled out all the stops at school! She knew all the actions and the words to her songs. I started getting a preview of "skid a merinkidink a doo" about a week before. It was pretty cute! We had dinner with our favorite cousins and had a great mothers day!

Easter 2013

Yep, worst picture ever! This is how much my kids like to pose for pictures- they don't! We had a great Easter. We dies Easter eggs in our underwear in the backyard- because that's the kind of mom I am. It's easier to hose everything down that way! On Easter morning we had an egg hunt and were excited to see what the bunny dropped off. We finished to day off with dinner at the Stones. It was an awesome day!

Kate

This little one is 3 and 1/2. Just ask her- she likes to include the half. She is quite the character. She likes to hang out, really just hang out. I like to call her my lump. If she had it her way she would get to watch tv all day. She is just finishing her first year of pre-school and she likes it. I think she was a little shy at the beginning of the year, but her teacher tells me she get braver and more assertive all the time. All of this is foreign to me as she is pretty brave and assertive at home! Right now she is into her baby Seraphina, Barbie and her scooter. We are working on the bike, but she's a pro on the scooter so we just let her be. She is into numbers and likes to show off her knowledge of letters and numbers. The thing thats so funny with Kate is if she learns something she likes to repeat it all the time. For instance when she figured out traffic light and how they worked you can bank on her asking "mommy?...why is that light red?" and I'll say "I don't know why is it red?" and she'll tell you "because we need to stop." She might be a trivia kind of girl like her mom! Every morning she gets up and asks "Mommy what day is it today?" followed by "Do I'm going to school today?" She already knows the answer, but she just likes to run it by you anyway. If you say "today is Monday" she'll ask, "do I go to school on Monday?" and I'll say "what days to you go to school?" then she'll answer "I go to school on Tuesday and Thursday." This is pretty much a word for word conversation that we have EVERY morning. I guess it's just reassuring to her to know what's going on that day. She is SUPER stubborn! She doesn't want to do things until she feels like doing them. As a result she doesn't eat breakfast until late in the morning and there are times when I literally have to pick her up and drag her out of the house. She likes to set her own schedule, pick her own clothes and lots of power struggles are the result. I can't tell you how many morning have been spent in tear and frustration (by both of us) because the clothes she wants to wear are dirty or the outfit she has chosen herself makes her look homeless. I usually cave on the homeless one, but she can't wear dirty clothes! All that aside she is still sweet. She came into our bed the other night and curled up next to me and I didn't want to let her go. She was so soft and squishy. She hasn't lost her baby chub and I adore it. She sucks on her finger when she sleeps and she still looks like a baby. She also talks in her sleep which is hilarious. She is funny. She loves to annoy her brother (like a good little sister). She loves her dad. Sometimes I get jealous of their connection, the whole mother/son, daddy/daughter thing is amazing. I love this little nugget.

Palm Springs Spring Break 2013

This year we took a little family trip to Palm Springs for an adventure over spring break. Evan was so excited to stay in a hotel! I didn't realize that he hadn't ever stayed in a hotel before, we always travel but it's either camping, a cabin or crashing at family and friends houses. So the first half hour of our stay in our room was Evan and Kate jumping from bed to bed. We hiked San Jacinto peak. I have never been there- it's amazing that a full on mountain exists in the middle of the desert. The tram ride was fun and Evan loves the adventure of the trails. I basically carried Kate while Paul kept up with Evan. He would have stayed there all day if we could have. We spent the next day with our friends the Owsleys swimming at the best pool ever! I didn't take any pictures because I didn't hardly see the kids, they ran that place like a boss. We took home some seriously worn out kids! We plan on doing this again next year- it was a fun get away!

Fun Day with the Cousins!

My cousin Chris is the only relative who lives by us. As a result we try to get together at least once a month and occasionally its more than that. We had a day off and decided to drive up to Clairemont and visit. We had a great day at the park and the best part was the train that passed by every 15 minutes or so. Evan loved it. All you need is a train and that kid is set! We are always happy to hang out with our family!

Evan turns 6!

Evan had fabulous birthday this year! We were lucky to have our cousins in town to help ring in 6 in style. He LOVES donuts! The best bribe (because I totally do bribe) I have is associated with donuts. So instead of a traditional cake, we had a cake made of donuts. He told me he didn't care about a cake, he just wanted to open his presents- he wasn't happy until the magical moment happened. He received a razor trike, trains, and legos. But his favorite present was his angry birds game. His cousins then put on a treasure hunt, around the house and yard to look for money. He LOVED that part. Having older cousins in awesome! I think six was a bittersweet birthday for me, he is no longer a toddler, he is a full on boy! He is doing very well in school and loves kindergarten. He has mastered sight words, can read very well, and math is coming along too. I can't believe he is so old. When I hold his hands, they just feel so big. I remember washing his hands when he was three and staring in unbelief how big they had gotten. I feel that way right now. It's as if his hands are his measuring stick. Once tiny and then a little bit bigger, they feel different in mine at every stage. He is quite the little prankster. He still loves to be active- rides his bike like its always a race. He has started to be a little competitive which is good, but we need to learn how to temper that a little. He is funny. He is mischievous, and gets a look in his eye when he thinks he had an great idea. He still crawls in bed with us every night. He likes the closet closed before he goes to sleep. He is a budding artist. I adore him. These have been a happy six years for me- I hope they have beed for you too Evan.
