Daddy's Homecoming

Paul went on a backpacking trip in the Sierra's for four days. Evan was constantly asking where he was. Our conversations went a little something like this:
"Mommy where dad?"
"Dad's camping."
"No Daddy work."
"O.k., dad's at work."
"No dad at church."
"Oh, maybe dad's at church instead of work."
"No, daddy work."
So for four days and nights, dad was at work. It must be awesome to have that kind of job. I had been psyching Evan up all day for dad to come home, but when he walked through the door, he just started sobbing. Not crying, but sobbing. He wouldn't even go see him. Paul picked him up and he looked at me and said "help". It was hysterical! I think he was a little freaked out by the whole thing. I felt bad for Paul because I'm pretty sure he was planning a better reception than that, but it was super funny nonetheless!

Help!

The big day is coming and I need a little advice concerning double strollers. Side by side or tandem? Paul and I have differing opinions but I need the tried and true accounts from friends who have already been there. Is it just me, or does the double stroller just take you to a whole new level of motherhood? I'm so not cool anymore!

Summer delays!

Well, its officially September and I have nothing to show for our super busy summer! Something was wrong with our camera and in our efforts to try to salvage it, we sure did lose a few memories. We finally broke down and bought a new one and I think it has made my summer. I'm so excited to use it! I wanted an SLR, Paul refuses to get a big camera so we compromised and settled in the middle. We bought the Canon SX200, and so far I love it! It was a ton a features, a 12X (huge!) zoom, it's compact, plus you can still shoot in manual mode. So far, so good. So hopefully there will be more to post coming soon! Now I just have to weed through a lot of wasted "experimental" shots.

Evan has grown a ton this summer! Gone are his baby days and now he's full throttle into toddlerhood. He's talking so well, I love being able to communicate with him. He cracks us up on a daily basis. He's gotten so independent lately it's killing me. I hear lots of "Eban do it", "I'll help", and "I get it". He's figured out how to bargain and offer "deals" to get his way. We've started working on potty training, but he's not super interested. I wish he was because this morning he was standing in his crib, diaper off and there was a fresh puddle of pee on the floor. Paul was impressed that he did his business standing up, though the slats in the crib, but I was a little worried about how many other puddles might be there! He still loves Thomas the train and his bike. His favorite "tb" shows are "Pinky Dinky Doo" and "Go gabba gabba". He likes the movie "Cars" and it starting to get into lightning McQueen and his friends. His favorite song as of the past few days is "baa, baa black sheep" and he has finally big enough to start enjoying playland at McDonalds. Which is a huge blessing seeing as it's 95 degrees outside and I'm 8 months pregnant!

Baby Kate is still hanging out and we are looking forward to her arrival! She is an unbelievably active baby! Evan never moved this much when he was inside of me. So far the pregnancy has gone well, and aside from gaining more weight by this time than I did the entire time with Evan I'm feeling pretty good. The only thing that I've craved is powdered donuts- I don't usually care for donuts, but this girl LOVES a package of hostess donettes. That would explain some of the weight gain wouldn't it?!
We are on the countdown now- 5 weeks left! So much to do and so little energy to do it! I have been trying to get some projects done this summer and have almost accomplished them all- I'll have to post on that later!

4th of July 2009

We had a fantastic 4th of July weekend. My sister and her new husband came down from Utah and we spent a little time with them at the beach, ate some TK burger, and Evan had his first chance on the boogie board. We then imposed on the Wheeler's and had a great time! The annual 4th of July parade in HB, some pool time, barbecue, bounce house, trampolines, friends and fireworks- does it get any better than that?
Watching the fireworks over the harbor in Newport Beach. Evan talked about fireworks for days afterwards. He loved them and didn't want to go home that night.
Enjoying a wagon ride with his new friend Peyton.

The bounce house. Need I say more?

Lake Tahoe 2009

This bear was across the street from our cabin. It was so fun to watch him in action and the kids LOVED it!

We had a great time as usual in Lake Tahoe. As you can see, our camera has been experiencing technical difficulties and we were not able to take that many pics, so I posted the two decent ones we got. It was fun to see all of Paul's family and continue on with the Christensen traditions and start a few of our own.

Summer beginnings

June was a busy month for us! We had a great time having Anna and the kids down for the weekend and visiting Paul's family in AZ, and attending Peter's (Paul's little brother) wedding. Throw in my trip to Utah and it was non-stop fun! I have to say that I love family get togethers with the Christensen's. I pretty much don't see my baby at all because he is too busy playing with his myriad of cousins. I kind of feel like a bad mom because we don't spend hardly any time together, but he would rather be playing with the big kids. I can't believe this weekend is the 4th of July. I need some time to catch my breath!
Evan and Scout had a great time at the beach. He loves to play in the sand, but he's not so impressed with the water. He loves the pool, but the waves scare him. I'm a nice mom and don't force the issue- o.k. I hate the water too. How convenient for me!
Evan and Scout. These two play so well together and he talks about her for days after she comes. Since we don't have any other family nearby, it has been so great having them around!
He spent 5 solid days in the pool. I only made him take an official bath twice- what's the point of being clean when your just going to jump in the pool again?
Water babies. Paul and Evan are both like fish in the water. I can't believe how comfortable he is "yumping" in the pool and going under water. Paul is the best dad for taking him swimming as often as he does. Hopefully he won't grow up to be a terrible swimmer and water hater like his mom!

Welcome Home

I came home from my trip to Utah to find this hanging above my bed. Pretty funny! I think that means my husband missed me while I was gone. We had a super fun trip and I have virtually no pics to show for it- I can't believe how lazy I am with taking pictures lately. Evan LOVED playing with his cousin Riley and still talks about her constantly. I LOVED my annual girls trip eating, shopping, gossiping, watching chic flicks, playing games and not having a baby to worry about. There's just something about good friends that is therapeutic- it was a great weekend. I look forward to another get together next year in Chicago- Woohoo!
